4Chairman’s report

Well, it’s been a funny old year again this year as we have clawed our way out of the Covid lethargy!
Due to bad weather of the rain variety, nothing really got going until April.  It’s great when we get going again.
Royston Historical vehicle day on the town car park, early May is a good day for tyre kicking and eating the Scouts sandwiches in the Old Town Hall.  Mid May, another visit to Steve Todd’s Museum, at the old Kia Ora Cafe in Newport.
May 25th, our Wednesday run to Finchingfield where we had lunch at the Fox Pub.  Boy, did we get shafted!  I still get palpitations at the thought of getting charged £26.80 for a pint of IPA and Ham Egg and Chips.  Talk about recovering from the lockdown.  I don’t think that we will be going there again!
In June we found out that the Five Miles from Anywhere pub at Upware was still there and as good as ever, but I have heard that it is up for sale.
I was indisposed on Wednesday 15th June and Mike Buttars led the run to Ashwell.  Reports back were that it was a great ride and the pub have really got there act together.
You know, it’s turning into a reasonable year!  We had a good visit to the Albert Brown Run, put on by the Bedford Club.  Their tea stop is an Art Form!
20th July and I must draw attention to Stuart’s ride out to the Brockett Arms, at Ayot St Lawrence.  Lovely beer, super lunch and although some of us went on a mystery tour, we all got there in the end and we must do it again next year!
August is the month for Mel’s formation dancing tortoises and Jill wonderful Ginger cake.  As this follows a visit ti the Silver Ball, the day can only be described as paradise.
Hobbsons Choice Run at the Farm, was a different format this year, due to various changed circumstances.  Starting and finishing at the farm, on a shorter route worked well and did not exhaust us old scrotes. We got to see Roger’s trains, and drink tea on the lawn on a very hot day and at the end of the month were given a tour of Chishall Mill.
Fish and Chip run to Clare was unique as they opened especially for us.  We always enjoy this day!
Due to the Hoops at Barton closing without telling anyone, we managed to get the Hare and Hounds at Harlton to lay on the Barbecue and Club Concours.  They did us proud and we all had a great day.
Last run was the run that I managed to cobble together to the Three Horseshoes, Graveley, when the pub at Mepal let us down. Again, the pub responded well, and we ought to go there again next year.
Martyn has organized some brilliant talks so far this winter and I think that the Club is going along nicely.  As I can’t believe how old I am getting, although the arthritis is busy reminding me, I am stepping down from the Chairman’s position.  I have had a great time and look forward to helping where I can in the future.

5Treasurer’s report

This is the treasurer’s report to go with the accounts for the year ending 30th September2022. The building society has given us £3 interest. All other income and expenses are as stated on the accounts. All this has given the club a £283 loss for this year. A few things to note, the raffle income is for two months only, we need to get this going on a more regular basis or we cannot have a free BBQ in future years. We also need donations for raffle prizes, I am sure you have the odd bottle of wine or box of chocolates that are not good for you anyway or the dreaded pair of socks that mother in law gave you that don’t match anything in your wardrobe, that would make great prizes. We made a deposit on a coach trip that never took place so we lost our deposit. The club now has a Nat West bank account not a building society account. There is a balance £3,319 I would like you to record a vote of thanks to my son Neil for his help in opening the bank account, because without his help I would never have managed it. We have £50 cash in hand. I will be stepping down as Treasurer at the end of this AGM.

6Secretary’s report

We were blessed with a glorious summer, and an excellent selection of rides to enjoy it with – so thanks to all those who have organised, led, acted as backmarker or just participated. For several years I’ve been very happy that a list of events pops into my inbox at the start of the year, and that ‘someone else’ has been willing to organise my Wednesdays for me – it’s been marvellous. I now realise that this doesn’t just magically happen – and that ‘effort’ is involved to achieve this. I’ve attempted to compile a list of events for next year using ‘Uncle Mike’s’ calendar as a template. This will be circulated soon. I would also like to include some events aimed at older bikes on weekends – to allow those that still have to work to enjoy a ride on a Sunday.
