Seven riders met at the Conington Airfield Cafe with Bottisham Airfield Museum airfield cafe (Anglian section checkpoint) as their destination.
Neil Diver had already ridden out to the Bedford section relay checkpoint to check they were open at their published start time.
After a coffee and bacon roll, we immediately fell foul of the Sunday mainline train service having to wait for three expresses before the level crossing opened at Holme. On to the Holme Post for a bit of local history* then a leisurely meander through the Cambridgeshire countryside to Bottisham via the ‘short cut’ through Upware which tested our suspensions.
Thanks to our team at Bottisham for staffing the checkpoint (Roger Burton, Graham Waters, Ann and Gordon Parker) who estimated about 60 bikes had turned up during the course of the day.
